A. Dennis Shelton, Member At-Large
Dennis Shelton brings to the State Board a lifetime of experience in education, including a wealth of exposure to all levels of the educational process.
A past superintendent of Triad Local and Caldwell Exempted Village Schools, Mr. Shelton has been a classroom teacher in the elementary, middle and high school grades. He was also a building principal, director of curriculum, and business director prior to becoming a superintendent in 1988.
Mr. Shelton’s dedication to education is reflected in his numerous appointments to professional associations and working groups. He has served as a member of the American Association of School Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, the Ohio School Boards Association, ODE Rules Development Committee, the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools, and the Coalition for Adequacy and Equity of School Funding.
Mr. Shelton holds a Ph.D in educational administration and school finance and a master’s degree in educational administration from Bowling Green State University. He previously earned a master’s degree in wildlife biology and a bachelor’s degree in biology, history and government from The Ohio State University. He and his wife Bette, also a former teacher, reside in Delaware. They have a daughter and a granddaughter.
Mr. Shelton is an at-large member of the State Board of Education. He was appointed by Governor John Kasich in January 2011. His term expires on Dec. 31, 2014.
