Robin C. Hovis, District 5 President, State Board of Education

Robin C. Hovis is a financial advisor for Edward Jones Investments in Millersburg. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture fromThe Ohio State University with a major in agriculture education.

Mr. Hovis taught high school vocational agriculture (Ag. Science) and adult education, then served as an area supervisor for the Ohio Department of Education’s Division of Vocational and Career Education, and State Future Farmers of America (FFA) Executive Secretary. Hovis has written several articles on issues concerning agriculture education. He moved to the financial services profession in 1989.

Mr. Hovis holds civic and professional memberships in the National Association of Securities Dealers, The Ohio State University Alumni Association, the Rotary and Lions Clubs of Millersburg and the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce. He has been a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and is a registered parliamentarian with the National Association of Parliamentarians. He is a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church.

During his service on the State Board, Mr. Hovis has served on a year-long national study commission to recommend improvements in financial literacy education, and a similar study commission on career technical education. He is a member of the Finance and Audit, and Governmental Affairs Committees of the National Association of State Boards of Education. He was also a member of the State Board’s School Readiness Solutions Group.

As the State Board member from District 5, Mr. Hovis represents Holmes, Geauga, Lake, Medina and Wayne counties and parts of Ashland and Cuyahoga counties. He has served on the State Board since 2004, first appointed by Governor Bob Taft to finish a term, and then to a four-year term as an at-large member. He was elected to a second full term on the Board as the District 5 representative in November 2008. His current term ends on Dec. 31, 2012.
